I’m Rhonda Connell. I'm a long time resident of Fredericton (30+ years). I run an educational business and enjoy many wonderful activities in our beautiful city. I have been passionate and active in the realm of politics for many years. For me, it's an area that can lead to active change in our society and our future.
I'm involved in the organization, Women+ in Politics, because I want to be represented by a woman+ candidate. I want to hear women+ voices in positions of decision making. I no longer want to sit and wait for change. I no longer want to have a man’s voice speak for me and my concerns.
A truly healthy and democratic government must act for all people in society and this requires that all people are represented at the table. Gender parity is the first part of this formula. Gender balance and diversity create divergent views and concerns that create balanced decision making and strong policies that serve the community.
I am excited about the many people working together to strengthen our city council and I look forward to a bright political future for the city of Fredericton!
Sheila is a retired member of the City of Fredericton senior management team. As staff, she attended Council meetings for several decades.
She was the first woman appointed to management and the only woman on the management team for many years. She saw the need for, and the benefit of, more gender equity on Council and on staff.
When Sheila saw capable women offering to serve on Council, she wanted to offer support to help more women join the table where decisions, impacting on our community, are made.
Kathi Vaughan Zwicker, retired to her hometown of Fredericton three years ago to study part-time at UNB for her 4th degree, a MEd in Adult Education. Her thesis work is now on hold during the pandemic.
She noticed many intelligent, well informed, caring women of Fredericton were speaking out on issues of concern but their words were not being heard. In response, Kathi took action. Kathi became the Co-lead of Women + in Politics Fredericton. She is organizing Changemakers/ Acteurs du Changement, a Toastmasters Club that will be dedicated to providing a podium so women’s voices will be amplified. She is actively searching for others to collaborate on a third project. The Women’s Empowerment Resource Coalition (Women’s Work) will help women who live in poverty gain self confidence, acquire skills so they can advocate for themselves, and provide opportunity for them to share their voice.
Kathi is involved in St. Mary’s Ferry Landing Neighbourhood Association, is a member of Saint John Toastmasters, Fredericton North Rotary, and the lead for the Rotary - Toastmaster Alliance Action Team for the Greater Fredericton Area,
A mother of three and grandmother to six, Kathi is enthusiastic, creative and energetic. She is a systems thinker who sees the big picture. Her volunteer interests revolve around issues of social justice.
I'm part of the PR team for Women+ in Politics Fredericton. I help with organizing events and promoting the organization on social media.
Gender parity is very important to me- I do not want my 2 daughters to be told "you cannot do that, you're a woman" the way I did growing up. We need women in leadership roles to be positive role models for the next generation ! Although my illness keeps me from running, it will not keep me from supporting!!
Shelley is responsible for Volunteer Coordination.
